Q. What is the Hero Scholarship Fund?
A. The Fund is a Private Foundation founded over 50 years ago with the purpose to provide a college education to the children of Philadelphia police and firefighters who have been killed or totally or permanently disable in the line of duty.
Q. Where does the Fund get the money to send the students to school?
A. The money is raised through fundraising events, private donations and memorials.
Q.Who determines who receives the award?
A. The awards are granted at the sole discretion of the Scholarship Committee an the committee's decisions are final.
Q. Is the award ever given to anyone but children of the police or firefighters?
A. No.
Q. Is there an age limit for the scholarship award?
A. No aid will be given to dependent children after the age of 25.
Q. When are payments made by the Fund?
A. All awards are made by semester only. Annual billing will not be accepted. All required grades and aid summaries must be received each semester before any grants are issued.
Q. How could I lose these benefits?
A. Students not maintaining a 2.0 GPA are immediately eliminated from the program. A certified copy of the students grades are to be sent to the Fund before payments will be issued for the following semester.
